Occurring on the steep, rocky southern exposure of a bedrock shrubland. Species associates include Lilium philadelphicum, Comandra umbellata, Woodsia ilvensis, Selaginella rupestris, Viburnum rafinesquianum, Prunus pumila var. susquehanae, Fragaria virginiana, Symphoricarpos albus, Solidago juncea, Polygonum douglasii, and Galium boreale.
