Locality: United States, Minnesota, Koochiching, Private island owned by the Camping and Education Foundation. Sometimes referred to as Deer Island. Located on the western tip of Grassy Island in Rainy Lake's Tilson Bay. Access by boat by launching from Tilson Bay public water access on MN-11. Specimen is 1.4 km north from access. Ranier is the nearest town 9 km to the west.

Elevation: 351 meters (1151ft)
Habitat: Growing under a canopy of Tilia americana and Pinus strobus with a subcanopy of Quercus rubra. Species associates include Carex pensylvanica, Aralia nudicaulis, and Eurybia macrophylla. Soil is wormed, well drained sandy loam over gravelly loamy sand.
