Locality: United States, Minnesota, Koochiching, Access by boat by launching from Black Bay Narrows at the Voyageurs National Park Rainy Lake visitor center off of County Road 96. Specimen is located at the southeastern end of Rainy Lake's Black Bay. Ray is the nearest town 16.7 km to the southwest.

Elevation: 339 meters (1112ft)
Habitat: Occurring on well-drained clay soil of a Quercus macrocarpa - Acer rubrum - Betula papyrifera northern wet-mesic hardwood forest. Shrub cover is dominated by Corylus americana and Viburnum rafinesquianum. Species associates include Parthenocissus vitacea, Brachyelytrum aristosum, Circaea lutetiana var. canadensis, and Eurybia macrophylla.
