United States, Minnesota, Koochiching, Access by boat by launching from Black Bay Narrows at the Voyageurs National Park Rainy Lake visitor center off of County Road 96. Specimen is located on a small island in Rainy Lake's Black Bay 1.7 km south-southwest of boat launch. Ranier is the nearest town 15 km to the northwest.

Habitat:
Occurring on shallow soil along a boulder-strewn shoreline. Specimen is within 10 m of lake and slightly above water line. Partial shade cast by Pinus banksiana, Pinus strobus, and Fraxinus pennsylvanica. Species associates include Toxicodendron rydbergii, Eupatorium perfoliatum, and Spiraea alba.
