Habitat:
Occurring on a steep upper slope of a bedrock high in an early-successional, Betula papyrifera-dominated forest. Partially shaded by Acer rubrum and B. papyrifera. Surface boulders abundant.
Substrate:
Growing in well drained, extremely stony loam with minimal overlying humus.
Associated Species:
Species associates include Eurybia macrophylla, Aralia nudicaulis, Orthilia secunda, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Abies balsamea, Rosa acicularis, Linnaea borealis, and Maianthemum canadense.
Description:
80 cm tall fruiting specimen.
