Habitat: Mesic oak hickory forest with Quercus rubra, Q. alba, Acer saccharum, Carya sp., Carex pensylvanica, Eurybia divaricata, Dichanthelium latiolium, Muhlenbergia sobolifera, Solidago caseia. Small tree, 4 m tall, gray brown bark with shallow vertical furrows. Aril pink, seeds orange. Distribution list: BRU, NEBC, MIN, VT
