Habitat: Growing near the southwest shoreline of Smith Lake (ID 21001600), a 665 acre eutrophic basin situated in the Minnesota River Prairie Subsection. Locally abundant, forming a large stand in ~ 1.4 meters of water. Individuals found growing from seed in shallow water nearby.
Substrate: Sand-silt substrate.
