Occasional in semi-open southwest facing bluff prairie with occasional sandstone rock outcrops, where this specimen was collected.
Associates include Bouteloua hirsuta, Asclepias verticillata, Artemisia campestre, Campanula rotundifolia, Paella atropurpurea.
