Habitat:
Occasional on west-facing shady slope near drainage valley.
Associated Species:
Canopy dominated by Acer saccharum and Quercus rubra with heavy layer of Ostrya virginiana in the understory. Abundant Geranium maculatum, Athyrium filix-femina. Occasional Brachyelytrum erectum, Adiantum pedatum, Dryopteris carthusiana, Prunus serotina seedlings, Osmunda claytoniana, and patches of Carex pensylvanica common.
