Occasional throughout small bluff prairie, but collected near lower area where small sandstone outcrops are common and dominated by Schizachyrium scoparium.
Other associates include Symphyotrichum ericoides, Monarda fistulosa, Asclepias verticillata, Tradescantia occidentalis, Poa compressa, Verbena hastata, Amorpha canescens, Coreopsis palmata, Dalea purpurea.
