Habitat:
Occasional in open, prairie rich fen with patches of willow shrubs common. Subtle rises, where this was collected, have much higher diversity than surrounding shallow peat.

Associates include Carex tetanica, Dasiphora fruticosa, Rubus arcticus, Salix petiolaris, Eriophorum angustifolium, Calamagrostis stricta, Carex cryptolepis, C. buxbaumii, Symphyotrichum boreale, Fragaria virginiana, Trichophorum cespitosum.
