Occasional in recently cutover wet-mesic Abies balsamea-Thuja occidentalis-Betula papyrifera forest.
Soils are sand with a high water table with occasional low mucky spots.
Associates include Aralia hispida, Carex houghtoniana, Carex adusta, Carex tonsa.
