Rare along old ditch spoils road that intersects large rich Larix laricina and Thuja occidentalis swamp. Growing in full sun with other wetland species.
Associates include Salix pyrifolia, Betula pumila, Cornus sericea, Solidago canadensis, Eutrochium maculatum, Carex stricta.
