Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Strongly rolling bedrock terrain northwest of Jackfish Lake, 17 miles north-northeast of Ely, on the northeast side of Sauna Lake.

Habitat: Infrequent in old growth pine forest. Patchy canopy dominated by ~250-year old Pinus strobus, with infrequent P. resinosa. Patchy understory of Picea mariana, Pinus strobus, Betula papyrifera, Abies balsamea, and Corylus cornuta. Partial shade. Fine sandy-loam to silty-sand, rocky and fairly shallow to granitic bedrock.
Associated Species: Associates include Cornus canadensis, Maianthemum canadense, Gaultheria procumbens, Linnaea borealis, Clintonia borealis, Vaccinium myrtilloides, V. angustifolium, Lonicera canadensis.
