Habitat: Occasional in small (~3-acre) mesic prairie remnant. In full sun to partial shade of patchy to rather dense shrubs and small trees including Salix petiolaris, S. discolor, S. bebbiana, Cornus stolonifera, Populus tremuloides, P. balsamifera. Deep, moist, black loamy soil.
Associated Species: Associates include Andropogon gerardii, Poa pratensis, Carex tetanica, C. buxbaumii, C. sartwellii, C. pellita, Hypoxis hirsuta, Commandra umbellata, Cypripedium candidum, Fragaria virginiana, Packera aurea, Viola nephrophylla, Cirsium muticum, Galium boreale, Zizia aurea.
