Habitat:
Frequent on upper portion of large felsic bedrock outcrop on ridge between Snowbank and Flash Lakes. Small patches in shallow soil over bedrock. Mostly in full sun (pine woodland canopy leveled by 1999 windstorm).

Associates include Danthonia spicata, Oryzopsis pungens, Dichanthelium depauperatum, D. xanthophysum, Corydalis sempervirens, Melampyrum lineare, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Rhus glabra, Vaccinium angustifolium, Prunus susquehanae, P. pensylvanica, Amelanchier spicata, Diervilla lonicera, Pinus strobus, Quercus rubra.
