Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Rolling bedrock terrain north of the Fernberg Road, 13 miles east-northeast of Ely. Local on tiny bedrock islet in Wood Lake.

Habitat: Small dense patch in very shallow, rocky, silty-detrital soil over bedrock (Knife Lake metasedimentary rock). Growing with mosses in sunny, dry, sparsely-vegetated setting atop a .05-acre islet that rises no more than ~3 feet above the lake at its highest point.
Associated Species: Associates include Agrostis scabra, Potentilla norvegica.
