Habitat:
Occasional to frequent in a shallow basin. Loose groups of plants in wet meadow in the small basin which supports a tiny pond at its center. Larger plants forming dense tall hummocks. Mostly in full sun. Moist silty-organic substrate.

Associates include Agrostis scabra, Equisetum sylvaticum, Onoclea sensibilis, Dryopteris cristata, D. carthusiana, Potentilla palustris, Triadenum fraseri, Persicaria amphibia, Eupatorium maculatum, Rubus strigosus, Salix discolor, Alnus incana.
