Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Rugged bedrock terrain along the Canadian border, 34 miles east-northeast of Ely, on the ridge between the North and South Arms of Knife Lake.

Habitat: Occasional to frequent in a shallow basin. In wet meadow and rich fen in the small basin which supports a tiny pond at its center. Mostly in full sun. Moist silty-organic substrate. Some plants in Sphagnum moss carpets.
Associated Species: Associates include Agrostis scabra, Scirpus cyperinus, Carex lasiocarpa, Equisetum sylvaticum, Onoclea sensibilis, Dryopteris cristata, D. carthusiana, Potentilla palustris, Persicaria amphibia, Eupatorium maculatum, Salix discolor, Alnus incana, Chamaedaphne calyculata.
