Loose patch of several large clumps in thin soil over a southwest-facing granitic outcrop. Dry to rather moist settings ~18-30 inches above river level. Full sun to partial shade of Pinus resinosa, P. strobus, and P. banksiana.
Associates include Dichanthelium acuminatum, Agrostis scabra, Danthonia spicata, Vaccinium angustifolium, Viola pallens, Persicaria sagittata, Lysimachia terrestris, Hypericum majus.
