United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Along the upper reaches of the Jackfish River in fairly rugged bedrock terrain 18 miles north-northeast of Ely. Local on the river bank at the landing of the portage from Wabosons Lake.

Habitat:
Loose patch of several large clumps in thin soil over a southwest-facing granitic outcrop. Dry to rather moist settings ~18-30 inches above river level. Full sun to partial shade of Pinus resinosa, P. strobus, and P. banksiana.
