Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Strongly rolling bedrock terrain south of Jackfish Lake, 16 miles north-northeast of Ely, above the south end of Beavercut Lake.

Habitat: Local on small granitic outcrops on bedrock ridge. Scattered clumps in thin dry organic detritus over bedrock. Full sun to partial shade of Pinus resinosa, P. strobus, and Populus grandidentata in the adjacent forest.
Associated Species: Associates include Cladina lichens, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Melampyrum lineare, Hieracium scabrum, Vaccinium angustifolium, Comptonia peregrina, Danthonia spicata, Dichanthelium xanthophysum.
