United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Fairly rugged bedrock terrain northeast of Jackfish Lake, 18 miles north-northeast of Ely, along the drainage between Sash and Circle Lakes.

Habitat:
Abundant in a small peatland. Habitat grades from rich to poor shrub fen to poor black spruce swamp. Saturated peat. Nearly continuous Sphagnum carpets. Low shrubs, mostly 2-3 feet tall. Forming the dominant ground cover in large areas. Full sun to partial shade of Picea mariana, Betula glandulifera, and Alnus incana.

Additional associates include Ledum groenlandicum, Kalmia polifolia, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Salix pedicellaris, Larix laricina, Smilacina trifolia, Carex lacustris.
