Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Fairly rugged bedrock terrain northeast of Jackfish Lake, 18 miles north-northeast of Ely, along the drainage between Sash and Circle Lakes.

Verbatim Elevation: 1305 feet
Habitat: Abundant in a small peatland. Habitat grades from rich to poor shrub fen to poor black spruce swamp. Saturated peat. Nearly continuous Sphagnum carpets. Low shrubs, mostly 2-3 feet tall. Forming the dominant ground cover in large areas. Full sun to partial shade of Picea mariana, Betula glandulifera, and Alnus incana.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Ledum groenlandicum, Kalmia polifolia, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Salix pedicellaris, Larix laricina, Smilacina trifolia, Carex lacustris.
