Habitat: Frequent in prairie / oak savanna on a large granite outcrop complex rising ~30 feet above the surrounding forested landscape. In shallow loamy soil over bedrock and along bedrock crevices. Level to gently-sloping, dry-mesic setting. Full sun to partial shade of small, open-grown Quercus macrocarpa and Q. ellipsoidalis.
Associated Species: Associates include Andropogon gerardii, Koeleria macrantha, Carex conoidea, Cerastium arvense, Heuchera richardsonii, Commandra umbellata, Corydalis sempervirens, Talinum parviflorum, Selaginella rupestris, Woodsia ilvensis, Opuntia fragilis.
