Habitat: Occasional in prairie / oak savanna on a large granite outcrop complex rising ~30 feet above the surrounding forested landscape. Small loose patches in shallow loamy organic soil and moss mats near the margins of exposed bedrock. Level to gently-sloping, dry-mesic setting. Full sun to partial shade of Quercus macrocarpa and Cornus racemosa.
Associated Species: Associates include Andropogon gerardii, Koeleria macrantha, Poa pratensis, P. compressa, Heuchera richardsonii, Cerastium arvense, Hedyotis longifolia, Oxalis violacea, Selaginella rupestris, Rhus glabra.
