Habitat:
Frequent in wet ash forest dominated by Fraxinus nigra. Patchy to fairly dense understory of Fraxinus nigra, Ulmus americana and Quercus rubra. Mostly in full shade. Forms clumps. Soil saturated just below surface; decomposed peat over very fine sand.
