Habitat: Occasional to abundant in sand prairie / oak savanna remnant on stabilized dunes. Full sun to partial shade of Quercus macrocarpa and Juniperus virginiana. Often forming dense patches in tan sand. Level to gently-sloping settings (mostly south- or west-facing aspects).
Associated Species: Associates include Carex inops ssp. heliophila, Stipa spartea, Schizachrium scoparium, Koeleria macrantha, Bouteloua hirsuta, Poa pratensis, Sporobolus cryptandrus, Anemone patens, Tradescantia bracteata, Geum triflorum, Rumex acetosella, Artemisia frigida, Selaginella rupestris.
