Habitat:
Infrequent in tamarack swamp. Interrupted canopy dominated by Larix laricina, with scattered Picea mariana. Sparse understory. Partial shade. Forming very loose clumps on low hummocks. Saturated peat.

Associates include Carex disperma, C. leptalea, C. paupercula, Smilacina trifolia, Menyanthes trifoliata, Campanula aparinoides, Potentilla palustris, Sarracenia purpurea, Ledum groenlandicum, Andromeda glaucophylla, Betula glandulifera, Lonicera villosa, Salix pedicellaris.
