Habitat: Occasional to common in jack pine woodland. Patchy canopy dominated by mature Pinus banksiana. Patchy to occasionally rather dense understory of Abies balsamea. Full sun to partial shade. Coarse tan sand with shallow dark (loamy organic) upper layer.
Associated Species: Associates include Oryzopsis pungens, Schizachne purpurascens, Carex richardsonii, Anemone quinquefolia, Galium triflorum, Viola conspersa, Diphasiastrum tristachyum.
