Frequent on upper portion of large felsic bedrock outcrop on ridge between Snowbank and Flash Lakes. Small groups of stems along crevices and in shallow soil over bedrock. Mostly in full sun (pine woodland canopy leveled by 1999 windstorm). Shrubs, to ~48 inches tall.
Associates include Vaccinium angustifolium, Amelanchier spicata, Rhus glabra, Diervilla lonicera, Pinus strobus, Quercus rubra, Prunus susquehanae, P. pensylvanica, Dichanthelium depauperatum, D. xanthophysum, Oryzopsis pungens, Danthonia spicata, Corydalis sempervirens, Commandra umbellata.
