Habitat:
Occasional on upper portion of large felsic bedrock outcrop on ridge between Snowbank and Flash Lakes. Small loose clumps in shallow soil over bedrock. Mostly in full sun (canopy trees leveled by 1999 windstorm).

Associates include Danthonia spicata, Dichanthelium depauperatum, Oryzopsis pungens, Corydalis sempervirens, Melampyrum lineare, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Commandra umbellata, Rhus glabra, Vaccinium angustifolium, Prunus susquehanae, P. pensylvanica, Amelanchier spicata, Diervilla lonicera, Pinus strobus, Quercus rubra.
