Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Along the Snowbank Hiking Trail in strongly rolling bedrock terrain on the west side of Snowbank Lake, 19 miles east-northeast of Ely.

Habitat: Uncommon and sporadic along and near the hiking trail. Rather shallow silty soil over bedrock. Full sun to partial shade (mixed pine woodland canopy leveled by 1999 windstorm). Climbing to ~5 feet high by twining on branches of shrubs and small trees. Flowers yellowish-orange to orangish-red.
Associated Species: Associates include Rosa acicularis, Diervilla lonicera, Viburnum rafinesquianum, Vaccinium angustifolium, Corylus cornuta, Amelanchier interior, Quercus rubra, Aster macrophyllus, Pteridium aquilinum, Oryzopsis asperifolia.
