Habitat:
Locally abundant on a 20- to 60-foot, north- to northwest-facing, basalt cliff at the southeast end of Rookie Pond. Large and often dense patches along ledges and on moss-covered vertical rock. Dry to mesic, partial sun to shaded settings. Shading by cliff aspect, by Acer spicatum, Thuja occidentalis, Sorbus decora growing on the cliff, and Betula papyrifera below the cliff.
