Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rugged bedrock terrain south of the Fernberg Road, along the upper reaches of Madden Creek, 12 miles east-northeast of Ely.

Elevation: 475 meters Verbatim Elevation: 1560 feet

Habitat: Occasional on diabase outcrops atop a 120-foot ridge just southwest of Wedge Lake. Full sun to partial shade of scattered Pinus strobus, P. banksiana, Populus tremuloides, P. grandidentata, Abies balsamea, and Acer rubrum. Rather large, dense clumps; mostly in quite dry settings with very little soil.

Associated Taxa: Associates include Danthonia spicata, Oryzopsis pungens, Schizachne purpurascens, Salix humilis, Diervilla lonicera, Vaccinium angustifolium, Amelanchier spp., Polygonum cilinode, Woodsia ilvensis, Cladina spp.
