Uncommon and local atop 100-foot ridge west of Wedge Lake. Loose patch of a few dozen stems near a large basalt (greenstone) outcrop. Patchy canopy of Populus tremuloides, with scattered Betula papyrifera, and very locally Quercus rubra and Populus grandidentata. Tall, dense understory of Populus tremuloides, P. grandidentata, Acer rubrum, Corylus cornuta, and Abies balsamea. Rocky loamy soil. Horizontal stems buried 2-4 inches deep.
