Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rugged bedrock terrain south of the Fernberg Road, 12 miles east-northeast of Ely, along a two-track forest road leading to Madden Lake.

Habitat: Local on a ridge top basalt (greenstone) outcrop. Full sun to partial shade of young Populus tremuloides. Shallow loamy soil over bedrock. Loose patches and small groups of plants. White flowers; still open at 7:00 p.m.
Associated Species: Associates include Dichanthelium depauperatum, Poa compressa, Danthonia spicata, Schizachne purpurascens, Vaccinium angustifolium, Rhus glabra, Diervilla lonicera, Amelanchier spp., Fragaria virginiana, Hieracium aurantiacum, Achillea millefolium, Pteridium aquilinum, Arabis glabra, Selaginella rupestris.
