Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rugged bedrock terrain south of the Fernberg Road, along Madden Creek 10 miles east-northeast of Ely.

Elevation: 430 meters Verbatim Elevation: 1410 feet

Habitat: Locally abundant in poor fen and poor scrub conifer swamp along the east side of the creek. Deep saturated peat. Continuous carpets of Sphagnum spp. mosses (S. magellanicum, S. angustifolium, S. fuscum, etc.). Mostly in full sun (to partial shade of stunted Picea mariana). Forming extensive loose to dense patches. Co-dominant cover (with Chamaedaphne calyculata) in many areas.

Associated Taxa: Additional associates include Vaccinium oxycoccus, Kalmia polifolia, Eriophorum spissum, Drosera rotundifolia, Sarracenia purpurea.
