Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rugged bedrock terrain south of the Fernberg Road, along Madden Creek 10 miles east-northeast of Ely.

Habitat: Frequent to abundant in poor conifer swamp along the east side of the creek. Deep saturated peat. Continuous carpets of Sphagnum spp. mosses (S. magellanicum, S. angustifolium, etc.). In partial to full shade of patchy to rather dense canopy of Picea mariana. Loose clumps, often forming dense patches. Often the co-dominant ground cover with Ledum groenlandicum and Smilacina trifolia.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex pauciflora, Eriophorum spissum, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Kalmia polifolia, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Myrica gale, Gaultheria hispidula, Sarracenia purpurea, Drosera rotundifolia.
