Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rugged bedrock terrain south of the Fernberg Road, along Madden Creek 10 miles east-northeast of Ely.

Elevation: 431 meters Verbatim Elevation: 1415 feet

Habitat: Very local in an ecotonal area on the west side of the creek. Loose patch of a few dozen stems in dry-mesic setting a few feet from the wetland margin. Shallow soil over basaltic (greenstone) bedrock at the edge of a narrow, low bedrock rise. Patchy canopy due to beaver felling and exposed bedrock. Partial shade of Abies balsamea and Pinus strobus. Ground layer dominated by Vaccinium angustifolium.

Associated Taxa: Additional associates include Melampyrum lineare, Achillea millefolium, Maianthemum canadense, Diervilla lonicera, Vaccinium myrtilloides, Rhus glabra, Schizachne purpurascens, Calamagrostis canadensis.
