Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rugged bedrock terrain in the White Hills, seven miles north-northeast of Ely. Uncommon and local near the eastern shore of Hawks Nest Lake.

Elevation: 425 meters Verbatim Elevation: 1395 feet

Habitat: Gentle lower west-facing slope of a 90-foot ridge. Two loose patches (~2 dozen stems each) in somewhat ecotonal mesic settings between the shoreline and the adjacent birch-fir forest. Patchy canopy of Picea mariana, with occasional Pinus banksiana, Abies balsamea. Partial sun to full shade.

Associated Taxa: Associates include Pteridium aquilinum, Lycopodium clavatum, Equisetum sylvaticum, Clintonia borealis, Cornus canadensis, Maianthemum canadense, Aralia nudicaulis, Alnus viridis, Diervilla lonicera, Comptonia peregrina, Vaccinium angustifolium.
