Habitat:
Infrequent in poor fen and poor scrub conifer swamp. Saturated peat. Continuous Sphagnum angustifolium carpets. Full sun to partial shade of stunted Larix laricina and Picea mariana. Loose clumps.

Associates include Eriophorum virginicum, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Myrica gale, Drosera rotundifolia.
