Local on dry southeast-facing cliffs composed of mafic metasedimentary rock of the Knife Lake group. Occasional on narrow ledges of the 30- to 100-foot high cliffs. Mostly in full sun.
Associates include Woodsia ilvensis, W. oregana, Pellaea glabella, Rubus strigosus, Ribes oxyacanthoides, Conyza canadensis.
