Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Strongly rolling bedrock terrain between Muskeg Creek and Hoist Bay, Basswood Lake, 11 miles northeast of Ely; north of Four Mile Portage.

Habitat: Local in a small ash swamp on a broad ridge. Patchy canopy of young Fraxinus nigra and Abies balsamea (regenerating from 1999 windthrow). Moist shallow organic soil over rocky sandy silt. Partial shade. Dozens of clumps in ~two acres, some quite robust.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex intumescens, C. brunnescens, C. retrorsa, C. leptonervia, Scutellaria lateriflora, Equisetum pratense, E. arvense, Viola incognita.
