Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Rolling bedrock terrain along the Four Mile Portage between Fall and Basswood Lakes, nine miles northeast of Ely.

Habitat: Locally abundant on the southwest shore of Muskeg Lake. Co-dominant with Alnus incana, Salix pedicellaris, S. planifolia, and Chamaedaphne calyculata in a rich shrub shore fen which forms a broad zone bordering the lake near the Muskeg Creek inlet. Many-branched shrubs, to 8 feet tall. Deep, slightly quaky, saturated peat. Full sun.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Salix candida, S. pyrifolia, Cornus stolonifera, Myrica gale, Ledum groenlandicum, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Carex stricta, C. chordorrhiza, Calamagrostis canadensis.
