Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Rolling bedrock terrain northeast of Fall Lake, nine miles northeast of Ely. Local on the shore of a small island at the south end of Mud Lake.

Habitat: Frequent in wet, shallow, organic silt over metamorphic andesitic bedrock (Newton Lake Formation). On the lake shore just above the present lake level. Dense clumps. Full sun.
Associated Species: Associates include Agrostis scabra, Dulichium arundinaceum, Eleocharis acicularis, Leersia oryzoides, Juncus brevicaudatus, Myrica gale, Cicuta bulbifera, Scutellaria galericulata, Mimulus ringens, Nymphaea odorata, Viola macloskeyi.
