Habitat: Occasional in cedar swamp. Patchy canopy dominated by Thuja occidentalis, with scattered Fraxinus nigra. Patchy understory of Fraxinus nigra, Abies balsamea, Thuja occidentalis, and Alnus incana. Small loose patches in moss carpets (Rhytidiadelphus, Sphagnum). On hummocks. Moist peat. Mostly in full shade.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Linnaea borealis, Rubus pubescens, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Mitella nuda, Coptis trifolia, Thelypteris phegopteris, Ledum groenlandicum, Lonicera canadensis, Taxus canadensis, Carex interior, C. leptalea, C. trisperma.
