Habitat:
Locally common on the margin of a small (2-acre) ash swamp on a broad ridge. Partial shade below a patchy canopy of young Fraxinus nigra and Abies balsamea (regenerating from 1999 windthrow). Stoloniferous; forming small dense patches on low hummocks. Substrate of moist shallow organics over rocky sandy silt.

Associates include Carex intumescens, C. brunnescens, C. retrorsa, C. stipata, C. leptonervia, Scutellaria lateriflora, Equisetum pratense, E. arvense.
