Habitat:
Local in poor conifer swamp; in the vicinity of small upland (bedrock) rises. Full sun to partial shade of stunted Picea mariana, and scattered Larix laricina. Sphagnum carpets. Frequent here in a setting that is slightly richer here than the surrounding spruce bog.

Associates include Carex limosa, C. magellanica, C. lasiocarpa, Kalmia polifolia, Andromeda glaucophylla, Ledum groenlandicum, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Betula pumila, Salix pedicellaris, Platanthera clavellata, Equisetum fluviatile, Menyanthes trifoliata, Scheuchzeria palustris.
