Habitat:
Local on the margin of an old beaver meadow, along a small drainage ~100 yards from the lake. Full sun to partial shade of Picea glauca, Betula papyrifera, and Alnus incana. Small, dense patches in ~1/4-acre area dominated by Calamagrostis canadensis. Mesic ecotonal zone recovering from past inundation. Rocky, silty-organic soil with scattered small boulders and thick thatch.
