Local on a small (2-acre) island in a large bay, southeast of Lincoln Island. Canopy of Quercus macrocarpa, Thuja occidentalis, Acer rubrum, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, and Betula papyrifera. Levele to gently sloping mesic settings with few feet of the lake level (the island has a little topographic relief). Loamy soil. Abaxial leaf surface varies from entirely glabrous on some plants to sparsely hispid on the veins of others.
Additional associates include Viburnum rafinesquianum, Ilex verticillata, Rosa acicularis, Rubus pubescens, Pyrola elliptica.
