Habitat:
Locally common on a subtle ~1/4-acre rise in an old beaver meadow, along a small drainage ~1/3-mile from the lake. Mesic, rocky, loamy soil, ~2 feet above the wetland. Full sun to partial shade of young Picea glauca, in a savanna-like setting. Most plants are browsed. The meadow is recovering from past flooding; large dam was breached prior to 1991.
